A Christian corporate organization is an organic body of believers — a living community where the faithful come together to produce meaningful outcomes.

Essential to human survival are basic physical needs: food, clothing, and shelter. Ultimately, humanity receives these necessities from God. Human beings were created in the eternal image of God. Consequently, in the heaven and earth where we dwell, Jesus Christ the Creator reigns as supreme King, and humanity abides under His divine governance.

If this is so, is God not also the Creator of Buddhists, Muslims, and followers of Judaism? In Ephesians 1:3–6, the Apostle Paul reveals that God chose us before the creation of the world. Even when Paul was a zealous follower of Judaism, God was with him; and after he became an apostle of Jesus Christ, he remained with the very same God.

In other words, God has been present even among those of other faiths. Regardless of distinct ethnic backgrounds, God is the ultimate Creator of all human life. In this chapter, we will examine the inheritable nature of enterprise and the Holy Spirit’s guiding role in management from the perspective of Christian administration. Furthermore, we will explore the necessity for Christian businesses to comply with both secular law and ecclesiastical principle, thereby illuminating the ultimate purpose of creating Christian enterprises.

1. Enterprises and Inheritance

God holds a distinct purpose for every person dwelling on this earth: the salvation of humanity. True salvation encompasses the complete redemption of soul, spirit, and body. This redemptive work of saving lives proceeds continually through Jesus Christ throughout the span of a person’s earthly life—from birth through a temporal existence, until entering eternity.

God granted humanity the divine mandate and authority to multiply, prosper, and steward creation, as expressed in Genesis 1:28:

"God blessed them and said to them, 'Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.'"

Through general grace, human beings received the responsibility and duty of stewardship to govern and care for the world as God's garden. The land on which all people dwell is merely the surface of the world God spoke into existence.

What, then, is the fundamental difference between those who know Jesus Christ and those who do not, in terms of absolute grace and corporate heritage? Those who know Jesus Christ have received the Spirit of adoption as God's children, whereas those who do not remain under a spirit of bondage.

Does anyone pay land taxes or monthly rent to God, the sovereign Owner, for using the earth? Does anyone pay royalty fees for marine life or sky transit to Him? Has anyone ever remitted payment for the air they breathe? No one has. Humanity, as God's creation, enjoys these gifts freely while stewarding and governing them. Therefore, God is the ultimate Owner of all enterprise, and we ourselves are "God's enterprise." As believers, we have received this enterprise as a divine inheritance.

2. The Inheritable Nature of Entrepreneurship

In operating and managing a business, leaders experience firsthand the foundational truth of God's sovereignty and creation, contrasting eternal truth with human relativity. While a manager may make operational decisions, it is God who directs their steps throughout the journey of enterprise management.

Understanding both relative and absolute truth enables leaders to realize that an enterprise is indeed a divine inheritance. Because a business cannot exist in isolation but must be managed in relationship with society, Christian management teaches leaders that they are entrusted stewards operating under relative truth (cf. Proverbs 21:2).

However, dark forces often work within enterprises, tempting people toward darkness, exerting evil influences on society, and leading organizations down paths of destruction. As John Wesley noted:

Satan, through his messengers, strays the followers of the Lord from the righteous path using the discourse of worldly wisdom. He ceaselessly attempts to corrupt God’s truth to entice the elect who hold fast to faith and love. Indeed, countless good souls have fallen into his wiles and remain entangled. (cf. Job 19:20)

3. Enterprises and the Socioeconomic Sphere

Because enterprises are directly connected to the socioeconomic fabric of society, they are constantly under public scrutiny. Christian management operates under the providence of God, who leads and governs organizations with righteousness and love, enabling them to shine as light in society. To achieve this, Christian business owners must acknowledge and actively practice the truth that God is the true Founder of the enterprise.

King Saul serves as a cautionary example of failing to acknowledge God as the true Founder. After becoming the first king of Israel, Saul disregarded God. He usurped God’s sovereign place and attempted to manage everything by his own power. Consequently, Saul’s self-centered reign ended in ruin, and his royal mandate was transferred to David.

When David ascended the throne, his experience in governance taught him that he was not the ultimate sovereign, but that God was the true King. Just as David’s royal authority originated from God, so too does a business come from God as a sacred inheritance. Those who receive this heritage must recognize God as Master and become faithful Christian business owners.

Being faithful as a Christian business owner means leaving behind meaningful fruit that benefits both the enterprise and society. Stewards of this divine inheritance must generate true value for their business, their community, and the building of God's Kingdom. As Wesley observed, Christianity is essentially a social religion. Because a Christian enterprise exists within society, its management should serve as a force for good, fulfilling its calling to be the light and salt of the world.
